This is a slightly used motor truck which was removed from a working modern era Lionel 44 ton switch diesel locomotive. It is in excellent operating condition. It has a two step pilot, an operating coupler, black and red wires from the dc can motor, a blue wire from the collector and a yellow wire coming from the grounding strip. These trucks have the standard gearing for the newer 44 ton loco, 9 tooth pinion and 32 tooth driven gear on the cluster giving a ratio of 3.55:1 The normal Lionel gearing for the diesel motor trucks utilizes a 10 tooth pinion and a 22 tooth driven gear on the cluster for a 2.2:1 ratio, so the 44 ton gearing sacrifices top speed for bottom end pulling power.
This truck can also be used on modern era NW-2 or SW-1 switchers, Alco type diesel locomotives, "Geep" and possibly other diesel models. The truck sides are a slightly different style than the Geep, and the two step pilot should be removed for the Alco application, and, depending on your chassis type, the mounting stud may need to be pushed out and pushed into the other hole on top of the truck body. It may also be compatible with many K-line, MTH and Williams diesel locomotives. Please check the photos for comparison to your truck or proposed application.
